These guys get it. Sean Joseph knows his brown stuff better than Don Draper, he also has the  Brooklyn whiskey bar, CHAR #4.
Chef Kyle Knall has plenty of Southern DNA,
Alabama DNA so that makes the food all the more authentic. Previously he was with the famed Grammercy Tavern.
Manhattan needed a refined whiskey bar, and the Flatiron is a perfect location. I am returning ASAP.
Go for the Kentucky Derby Day BBQ.

NEW YORK on My Mind

ESCAPE to NEW YORK!

Mud Season in Vermont is not the ideal experience. To escape somewhere South is the M.O. and if you time it just right, Spring in its budding glory will welcome your return. So it never bothered me until this year; the mud sucked my car up like a sinkhole, you cannot walk around to enjoy the warmer weather: MUD! It's in your shoes,  on your boots,  kicks up on the back of your pants, it's everywhere.
I needed instant refuge to elude the mud, I wanted to walk for days, smell the Spring blossoms and break out from the trappings of harsh seasonal change. Escape to NEW YORK!

                             A WALK AROUND the CITY

Great day, Great walk

Time for TERROIR

Terroir is my favorite wine bar in Manhattan, the wine lists
are innovative and outside the box, they were the first to
bring the remarkable wines of JEREZ to the mainstream
palate. Paul Grieco (owner) said, "we're just not cork-pullers."

The Bar Snacks are terrific too!

A FREE glass of sherry before 7pm

Beet Gorgonzola Arancini and Pear and Pecorino Salad

Bone Marrow and Pickled Apples

Veal and Ricotta Meatballs with a glass of Dolcetto d'Alba Roagna 2011 and Brooklyn Brewery's Dry Irish Stout

Valentine's Day New York Style!

VALENTINE'S DAY

                                                                NEW YORK CITY STYLE

The mysterious St. Valentine was at least three people according to lore. Maybe he or she was an urban legend? The Roman Catholic Church is craven to admit that only one Valentine existed. Well, who cares, what a great idea for a romantic figure to emerge from the Middle Ages and symbolize the beginning of mating season in February. Perfect segue and thee perfect food for V-Day!

                                                SEA URCHIN

                                                THE SEXIEST FOOD ALIVE

The incredibly divine eggs and gonads of the hedgehog of the sea! My favorite food on earth.
The perfect food for Valentine's Day at Dave Pasternack's, ESCA NYC.

Spending some time on the Gulf of Mexico, when growing up, I used to step on these fabulous creatures. I was annoyed by them, they were everywhere. My only regret is that I did not know how truly delicious and nourishing they are. The Japanese, the artists of food culture on earth, are UNI specialists. Modern chefs in New York City are advancing uni into the palates of the squeamish (not me). Here are a FEW of my favorite uni indulging spots in the City where my uni dreams come true.

This a brilliant idea by Chef Michael White served at the flagship of his empire: MAREA. Sea urchin bruschetta with a paper thin slice of lardo! Bravo Chef Bianco!

Blue Ribbon Izakaya: Maine sea urchin alive with their onion rings tempura, the best in the City!

Sensuous Japanese, Santa Barbara and Maine sea urchin at 15 EAST with a big fat martini
(these are iphone photos taken at 15 East's dark dining room)

What a Date Night!

Uni dreams being fulfilled is one of the passions of my existence. I intend to keep us all updated regularly. Thank you, Neptune Nature Spirit!

Empire State dressed in red for a lovely walk home.
Happy Valentine's Day!

P.S.

This is my favorite go-to recipe at home to satisfy my uni cravings.
I always make homemade pasta, (one half pound) tagliolini, but egg noodles work as well.
Toss the hot pasta with 1 tablespoon each of ghee, high quality olive oil and organic cream,
add the uni tongues toss lightly, spice it up with 10 turns of mixed peppercorns.
Enjoy this bliss dish with a glass of champagne.

 NEW YORK CITY STYLE #3

 The Human Honey Bee

                                                         Wolfgang Laib

                           POLLEN FROM HAZELNUT
This exhibition is in settled residence in the Marron Atrium at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  The artist considers this area to be the "womb of the museum"and created this brillant and bedazzling work especially for the site, It is the largest pollen installation to date.

"Pollen is the essence of the flower"
"Potential beginning"
                                                                    "The male seed"

The luminous and commanding vistas from all vantage points!!!!!

The artist said, "it takes hours and hours, days and days" to collect
                                                        the beaming and radiant pollen!!

Make all effort to see and feel this wondrous exhibition. The color yellow is
is represented in the etheric human body at the solar plexus chakra, the power
                             center. Extraordinaire!
