Wintry London Design Week

It started last Sunday, London Design Week at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, where many gather to view the new collections of prints and weaves, new lights and furniture. Always love the new designs.

This year I was delighted to see my favorite supplier of trimmings; tassels, beads, pom poms, ribbons and more, Samuel and Sons from New York has a showroom here in London. A true delight because they have one of the most amazing collections of passementerie with the most amazing selection of colors.

There was a strong influence from Asia in many of the patterns and motifs.

And then a fresh and graphic geometric from Jonathan Adler at Kravet.

Designers Guild had broad brush stokes of florals.

Osborne and Little had a mixture of many patterns and motifs, a very charming one

of Penguin book covers, they could have raided my library...

London Design Week 2012

Albemarle Cole and Son

Wallpapers from Cole and Son

Early March, when the weather changes, the showrooms of the fabrics, wallpapers and furnishing  show us the new collections, it is a treat to view the latest patterns, colors and the lovely room sets, it fills our imaginations with new ideas.

Some are old patterns revisited with new colors, a new scale as with Cole and Son or Clive Christian still look refreshing and elegant. Other are new patterns such as the fresh watercolor florals from Sanderson and the damasks and embroideries from Colefax and Fowler. Osborne and Little and Nina Campbell have some geometric patterns and bold floral and Designers Guild has been inspired by Japanese ceramics and watercolors.

All are beautiful, all will create lovely and pleasant homes for years.

Heart Home Magazine

Heart Home Magazine was launched yesterday in London.

Last night we all enjoyed a glass of wine in toast to Carole King, Daniel Nelson and Ariana Trapani for their fantastic 1st issue of Heart Home Magazine. It is a online lifestyle magazine, much needed from London, full of articles and features of homes, fashion and food in Britain.

Reading through the magazine with coffee this morning, there are articles about designers and stylists working in Britain, a good guide to the upcoming London Design Week and (very important) what to wear in each part of town.

There are features of homes, flats and lofts that show us eclectic styles from vintage to modern and articles about the great and influential design movements of Britain; the Arts and Crafts Movement to the Festival of Britain.

An interview with Terrence Conran who states that as a designer, one should not be a disciple but be in service to help people improve and enjoy their lives. I couldn't agree more.

Please read, share and enjoy Heart Home Magazine, the next issue is December 8th.

A Taste of Next Month

In a few weeks is London Design Week, new collections of lighting, furniture, fabrics and accessories will be displayed in showrooms and exhibition centers. Yesterday I had a sneak preview and taste of the events to come.

I was invited to the showroom of Neville Johnson, the designers, makers, installers and managers of shelving and storage for a taste of English wine from the Wine Pantry.

Over some delightful chilled rose and a lovely chardonnay we chatted, not only design and the lovely furniture, but family kids, schools and France. Just girl talk, it was fun.

However this table with the compartment for the books and magazines is great, more space for the glasses and bottles of wine.
