Heart Home Summer Time

Still life, the arrangement of flowers, a book, a vase are enduring compositions for paintings and photographs. I love them, they are moments of beauty, a moment of contemplation.

These lovely compositions are from the latest issue of Heart Home Magazine, it was published last month. Full of great articles on picnics and recipes for the long summer days and an interview by one of my favorite designers, Ella Doran. Her photographic prints on home accessories and stationary. One item always appropriate is the photo of fresh summer leaves on wallpaper and blinds is a good solution for London flats.

Another article on how to dress your living room in the comfortable style we are accustomed to today by using dusky and chalky colors and very comfy sofas,  all very pretty.

But read it and see the beautiful homes of stylists and designers here.

Heart Home Spring Issue

The Spring issue of Heart Home was published online last week.

This lovely and comfortable home of designer, Helen Turkingham, on the Northern coast of Ireland is full of fresh colors and fresh flowers and captures the soft light of a seacoast. A beautiful home.

This issue is a treat to read and gets us ready for the change of season. If there was a theme to this issue I would say up-cycling where we visit several people who have found forgotten pieces and turned them into treasures by repairing, recovering, repainting and making them into new pieces to love and use.

Along with the articles about people recycling there are views into some very stylish homes here and in Norway:

A glimpse into the home of Nina Holst founder of Stylizimo Blog, one of my favorites.

And from the lovely home of Sarah Cook who has started her own furniture business, La Residence Interiors.

There are also delicious recipes for biscuits, pistachio almond, traditional Easter biscuits and white chocolate pecan, yum... read all here at Heart Home Magazine

Evocative, Powerful, Strong Sculpture

On a visit to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford I was stunned by the powerful sculpture from Rome in the 1st century. The spirit in stone, the struggle of the soul, the strength of the material. Powerful. Heroic.

To see more of the photos from my visit to the museum see my Heart Home Magazine blog post

Maps

Something Nice Today is a blog by Ellie Parker, a friend from the Design Blog CollectiveShe posts all the fun and funky things made in Britain by the many and talented designer / makers. Today on her blog you can find here a competition to win an original drawing of a map of the world or your favorite city by Alice Tait. If you like her Facebook page and comment on Ellie's blog, you have entered.

I love maps, and have spent hours studying them, old ones, new ones and illustrated ones like these from Alice. They give you a sense of place and most important they will give you directions, I think I would go for the London map, New York is so easy to find your way, uptown or downtown. Paris is the Right bank or Left Bank, but London is a challenge to know, you need a map.

Enjoy these maps and choose which you would like for your wall to find your direction. The competition is on till 21st July.

Ellie is the editor of Something Nice Today and a member of the Heart Home magazine family and she is very pretty and has a lovely smile.

And you can like Alice's Facebook page here

Heart Home Summer

This weekend while recovering from jet lag, (why is it always worse coming to the UK?) I read through the new issue of Heart Home Magazine, a delightful issue full of good food and marvelous and charming homes to look into.  I loved" Beach Life" the renovated home on the coast,  so clean, relaxing and fresh. Having lived across the street from the Gulf of Mexico when young, beach homes are always a attractive. My other favorite articles were the ones on the food, "The Modern Pantry" and "Bake Style Pretty"haven't cakes and cupcakes become so stylish lately?

The rest of the magazine has some great articles on homes and flats of designers and stylists, read it here, it is my favorite magazine now.

Spring Heart Home

The latest issue of Heart Home Magazine came out ten days ago, this weekend I had time to catch up on some reading and was delighted with page after page of loveliness.

This issue covers the freshness of Spring with articles and features on the clean look of modernism and Scandinavian design. A mid-century flat that mixes contemporary design in South London is the cover feature with other articles mixing floral prints and stripes, a peak in a stylists home, an interview with illustrator Rob Ryan and style themes on the Jubilee and many more on fashion and recipes. There is also a good article by Barbara Chandler on trends, which way they are going.

Take a few minutes to read about and see some lovely interiors in the Spring issue here.

Read All About It

Women's Weekly has published an article this week about blogs being a great way to find inspiration and to get an insider take on interior design and decoration. Best, the article features friends from Heart Home, which receives a mention and from the Design Blog Collective, Rona from Flowerona plus a feature on Holly from Decor8 and a very good offer on her book and one on Di Overton who writes Designer's Block. We are all pleased to see magazines and blogs can collaborate and compliment each other.

COADG, Katie Treggiden

When I started my blog nearly a year ago, I had been reading dozens of them before jumping in. I came across the Design Blog Collective, it is a group of fun and creative people writing great, inspiring blogs. I was lucky to become a member and also found new friends, a community and a place to just talk blogs and design.

Katie started her blog Confessions of a Design Geek because of a passion she has for well made, well designed products and has written about them, interviewed designers, shows us things she has made earlier and tells about all the design shows, exhibits and festivals. I particularly enjoyed a series she did about the best designed cafes in London, a good coffee in pleasant surroundings.....

She has recently had a collection of interviews with designers published. Interviews where she really gets to the understanding the design process and asking the questions that started us into this work.

Her book Interviews, Volume one  is available on her blog. Katie is now working on her dream of being a design writer, keeping us informed of new shows, new products, who is designing what and asking those questions of how to make it beautiful and useful. She also contributes to Heart Home Magazine, another publication by members of the DBCollective.

And she has a beautiful smile.

Home

Yesterday started the new interior and accessories exhibition Home,  I went to visit and saw the new light, colors and designs that will be in stores this year, some old favorites and some new versions of lights, I like the block of wood a lamp base, the big and bare light bulb is bigger and the Plumen curved and elegant fluorescent lamp was prominently displayed.

Colorful glass ware and inside lampshades:

and an updated version of a side table. A good show, also showing there is Heart Home Magazine.

Heart Home Magazine 2

With some time to catch up on some reading I have very much enjoyed the second issue of Heart Home Magazine. It came out earlier this month and I had a brief look, but today I had some time to read. It is as engaging and enjoyable as the 1st issue. The articles cover many items for the holidays, but also a good selection of articles on homes of real people.

I have recently been measuring mantlepieces for mirrors and looking at frames, styles and placement. Mirrors look very good above the mantlepiece, they help to illuminate the space and give a sense of spaciousness. So while reading Heart Home today I paid particular attention to the mirrors in the articles and was enchanted of the variety of styles and where they are placed.

I liked the placement of vintage over a bathroom sink and an arrangement of pictures and a round mirror over a bathtub.

Heart Home Magazine is full of ideas and imagination. Subscribe all your friends and family, they will love it.
