Art School Style

A very pretty direction in printed textiles for upholstery and curtains I noted last week during the Spring shows of new collections was the collaboration with artists.

Lewis and Wood teamed up with 3 artists and Romo printed the paintings of Jessica Zoob on to fabric.

The collection English Ethnic by Lewis and Wood is a selection of fabrics and wallpapers that were designed for this company by 3 artists, Melissa White, Flora Roberts and Su Daybell. Each practices their style of painting on cloth, walls or canvas and collaborated with Lewis and Wood to have the work digitally printed onto linen or paper. I think the title of this collection English Ethnic is very suitable and has so much reference to Elizabethan, Jacobean styles and touches of Charleston in Sussex

Bacchus, Melissa White

Doves, Flora Roberts

Sika, Flora Roberts

Womad, Su Dybell

Whereas the collaboration of Romo with Jessica Zoob an artist who lives and works in Sussex has a more contemporary look and a more atmospheric feel. The paintings rich in colorful brushstrokes and a dragged effect like Gerhard Richter, have adapted well into repeats and can be mixed with many other colors and textures.
