A new gallery and community center opened in Margate this month designed by David Chipperfield, a beautiful simple building designed to use the natural light to view the art.
What has captured my imagination about this building is the pared down simplicity, it is not a building of ego and experiment but a shelter for the community to gather and meet, to view exhibits and look at the sea.
The building is positioned looking out over the sea and receives the even gray northern light, the best quality of light to view art. I look forward to going to see this building. Any building today that is thought out to fit into the environment, work with the climate and uses as much natural light as it can is a dream project. I hope to build one someday.
